Or more accurately titled ‘How to get yourself out of the rut that you’ve definitely been stuck in a few days too many’.
We’ve all been there. We’ve been good all week and we reward ourselves with a Friday night treat. But then this Friday night treat turns into a Friday night pig out… with leftovers that have to be eaten on Saturday… and cravings that appear on Saturday due to eating said left overs… and then cravings that become addictions by Sunday and before you know it you’re lying in your bed covered in Doritos and are on Season 7 of Pretty Little Liars (yes there’s 7 seasons. No it’s not worth watching)
So here are a few tips and tricks to help you get out of that rut and bounce back ready for Monday:
- LET YOURSELF LIVE IN THE RUT
What I hear you ask? Well, the body craves things. It’s normal. And it’s NATURAL. Don’t deprive yourself of what your body is wanting (within moderation) otherwise an invetaible month long rut and self-loathing will continue. Give yourself those 2 days of eating sh*t and regrettably feeling like sh*t to give you the needed motivation to get your life in gear for at least another week. It’ll be out your system, it’s good for the soul and here’s the thing they won’t tell you…. eating like crap for only 2 days is NOT going to make you put on weight! (I mean you’ll bloat like crazy but at least calm yourself knowing in 3 days you’ll be good again)
2. PLAN YOUR BOUNCE BACK
Now this may sound silly, but this is how this Becky get’s her mind mentally cleansed from living in chaos. Make a list of the steps you’ll take and plan your life away with list and list. I’m telling you, this sh*t is like therapy.
3. GET RID OF THE CRAP
What’s made you feel like you were stuck? All the sh*tty food? Eat it now or throw it away. Don’t leave it in the cupboard for a ‘just in case’ because you WILL find yourself with another packet of Monster Munch in your hand before you’ve even watched one Jenna Marbles video. And this goes for your environment to. Clear out all the rubbish, do the dishes, sweep the floor- Pinterest the crap out of your room to make it a sacred temple. Air it out and light those scented candles to get rid of that 2 day old pizza smell…
3. START ON A FRESH NOTE
Clean yo’ self. And I mean properly. Exfloiate all last weeks sins… I mean fake tan off, shave, wash your hair and moisturise. Heck, even paint your nails. Get those eyebrows as naturally fleeky as poss so you can start off the next morning clean as a whistle.
4. DON’T RUSH BACK INTO IT
Don’t sign yourself up for 3 Soul Cycle classes in one day. You won’t go, and the shock to your system will throw you right back into the rut. Start with going on a long walk outside. The next day a dance class, the day after that maybe you make it to the gym. Don’t overwhelm your mind with fitness responsibilities you know you can’t keep. The smaller and more achievable the goal you set, the more likely you’re going to do it.
5. GET OUT THE HOUSE
Find yourself some activities that you have to stay committed to. Dinner wth friends, a study session with your course friends or plan to do some hours at work. Getting a sense of routine will force you out of your rut and back onto a schedule and get you back on track.
